The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction owns and manages the Grafton Correctional Institution, which is a state prison for male inmates and is situated in Grafton, which is located inside Lorain County in the state of Ohio. The institution first opened its doors in 1988 and has the capacity to hold up to 2,074 inmates with several degrees of security, ranging from minimum to medium.

Visitation Hours:

Visiting at Grafton Correctional Institution uses a visiting schedule that is based on the last digit of the inmate’s I.D. number. If the inmate’s I.D. number ends in an odd number, they are allowed visits on odd dates, even I.D. numbers are allowed visiting on even days.

Visitation occurs Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8am-12pm and from 1pm-5pm.
Visiting at Grafton Reintegration Center occurs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-12pm and from 1pm-5pm.

Grafton Correctional Institution also offers video visitation through a third-party company called JPAY. Video visitations can be scheduled through JPAY from 7:30am-10:30am, 12:30pm-3:30pm, and 5:30pm-8:30pm.

Visitation Policies:

All approved visitors that are 16 years of age and older must surrender a valid picture I.D. upon entering a facility for visiting. The following are recognized picture I.D.’s: Driver’s license from any state; State identification from any state; Passport; Military I.D.; Immigration card picture I.D.; Senior Citizen I.D.; Honor Citizens I.D.; High-School I.D.

The exception of appropriate outerwear such as a coat and gloves.
Appropriate undergarments must be worn (i.e., bra, slip, and underwear).
No additional clothing is permitted to be carried into the facility.
Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to: see-through clothing of any kind, tops or dresses that expose the midriff or have open backs or open sides, sleeveless clothing such as halter tops, tube tops, cropped tops, tank tops, and muscle shirts), low-cut clothing cut in a manner that exposes the chest, any clothing that inappropriately exposes undergarments, skirts, dresses, shorts, culottes with the hem or slit above the mid-knee, wrap-around skirts/dresses or break-away type pants, etc.
No more than one wristwatch or pocket watch will be permitted.
Purses, handbags, backpacks, or similar items are not permitted. Diaper bags and infant carriers are permitted, but are subject to regular search procedures. Clear plastic bags are preferred in place of diaper bags. Diaper bags may include A reasonable number of diapers and baby wipes, three plastic baby bottles, three plastic containers of baby food, and one pacifier.
All visitors are subject to clear the metal detector. The following items often prevent clearance of the metal detector: hairpins, bras with metal underwires, certain boots and shoes, clothing with multiple zippers, and excessive jewelry.
Wearing inappropriate clothing may result in a visitor not being allowed to visit or not to clear the metal detector.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has a zero-tolerance for the conveyance of drugs, alcohol, and weapons into its correctional institutions. Any such act will constitute a violation of section 2921.36 of the Ohio Revised Code, which states in part that “No person shall knowingly convey, or attempt to convey, onto the grounds of a detention facility (including prisons, owned and operated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction) or of an institution that is under the control of the department of mental health or the department of mental retardation and developmental disabilities, any of the following items: Any deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance, or any part of or, ammunition for use in such deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance; Any drug of abuse, as defined in section 3719.011 of the Revised Code; Any intoxicating liquor, as defined in section 4301.01 of the Revised Code; Cash; Cellular telephone, two-way radio, or other electronic communication devices.
Any product that contains tobacco, including but not limited to cigarettes, loose tobacco, cigar, snuff, chewing tobacco, or any other preparation of tobacco, tobacco substitutes, smoking paraphernalia (i.e., matches, lighter, cigarette papers, and rolling machine).

Sending Money To An Inmate:

Money can be sent to inmates through the following methods:

Mail: Approved (or tentatively approved) visitors may make deposits by U.S. Mail through JPay. Each money order must be accompanied by the Money Order Deposit form. Money orders may not exceed $200 unless approved in advance by the institution Warden.

Money Order: You will not be able to send any letters to the inmate with the money order. Any letters sent to inmates with the money order will be discarded.
